Cognitive Impairment

Cognitive impairment refers to difficulties in mental processes such as memory, problem-solving, language, and attention. It can range from mild cognitive decline (which affects daily functioning but not independence) to severe impairment, such as dementia. Common causes include neurological conditions (Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s), brain injuries, stroke, and aging. Symptoms may involve forgetfulness, confusion, trouble making decisions, and difficulty following conversations. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include cognitive therapies, medication, and lifestyle changes to support brain health.
